Seven new gifts add $2,225 to the Empty Stocking Fund, pushing its total to $15,375.
Each of the gifts will be matched with a $50 donation from an anonymous benefactor.
The largest gift, for $1,000, is offered anonymously.
There are also two $500 gifts, one from the Bethesda United Methodist Church Women, and the other from Larry Brooks, the owner of Lela Anne’s Learning Center in Pembroke. Brooks makes the gift in honor of the children who attend the day care, and they can be seen in a photograph with this story.
There are 1,950 children qualified to receive help from the Fund.
Checks can be mailed to the Empty Stocking Fund, 2175 Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a donation can be delivered in person. As in the past, we will publish photographs with gifts of $500 or more when that request is made. To give yourself the best chance of that photograph appearing on page 1A, get your donation in early.
The vouchers can be redeemed at Roses, either the Lumberton store or the one in Fairmont.
