CHAPEL HILL — With wintry weather spreading across parts of North Carolina on Friday, it had an impact on the NCHSAA football state championships scheduled for Saturday.

While cold rain continues to fall across most of the Southeast, snow has been falling in portions of the Tar Heel state and forced the NCHSAA to push back the kickoffs for the 4AA and 4A championship games. The start of the 4AA game between Wake Forest and Mallard Creek has been delayed three hours and is now scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Subsequently, the 4A game between Scotland County and Harding University has also been delayed three hours and is now scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, the NCHSAA announced it was monitoring the weather situation along with our host facilities and will update media outlets and general public as necessary,” the NCHSAA said in a statement. “At this time, we are still on as scheduled for all eight championship games (on Saturday).” This came before moving the start times back for the 4AA and 4A games at Wake Forest.

Championships are scheduled to be held today in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
