FAYETTEVILLE — A Robeson County man was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident in Cumberland County.
Shaune Jacobs, 28, who is from Pembroke but was living at 4147 Glenridge Road in Fayetteville, died when he was ejected from the 2018 Dodge Ram in which he was a front-seat passenger, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Patrol Sgt. D.K. Pearson said Vickie Keyes, 61, of Fayetteville, and Richard Marvin Hooker, 42, also of Fayetteville, were both traveling north on Baywood Road when the accident happened. The time of the accident was not available.
Hooker’s Dodge Ram was behind Keyes’ 2009 Hyundai passenger car as it attempted to make a left on Sanderosa Road, Pearson said. The truck improperly passed on a doubleline and struck the Hyundai.
The Dodge ran off the road to the left, struck a ditch, and overturned several times, ejecting Jacobs, Pearson said. The Hyundai exited the road to the right.
Keyes was injured, but Pearson did not know the extent of her injuries. Hooker, who was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, improper passing and reckless driving.
The accident happened about two miles southeast of Eastover. Hooker and Jacobs were not wearing their seat belts. It was not clear if Keyes was wearing a seat belt.
Both vehicles were destroyed.
“He was a special person who would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his family, especially his daughter and fiance,” Anjelica Brayboy, a family friend, said of Jacobs.
