PEMBROKE — Pembroke native Caleb A. Malcom was appointed May 29 to the N.C. Credit Union Commission by Gov. Roy Cooper.
“I am humbled to have been appointed to serve on this commission,” Malcolm said. “A willingness to serve and diversity of backgrounds are fundamental attributes of successful boards, and I am certain I will be able to contribute to the Credit Union Commission.”
Malcolm, the vice president of Information Technology for Lumbee River Electrical Membership Corporation and chief operating officer of LREMC-Technologies LLC, is a recent retiree from the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel.
The commission, which was created in 1971, is composed of seven members who are appointed by the governor for a term of four years. It provides oversight of the state’s credit unions, which is “a cooperative, nonprofit association, incorporated … for the purposes of encouraging thrift among its members, creating a source of credit at a fair and reasonable rate of interest, and providing an opportunity for its members to use and control their own money in order to improve their economic and social condition.”
Malcolm is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he received a commission as an officer in the Air Force, and holds a master’s degrees in Quality Systems Management and Military Operational Art and Science.
Malcolm serves as the president-elect of the UNCP Alumni Association board of directors and is immediate past president of the Alamo Area Wrestling Officials Association in San Antonio, Texas.
Malcolm and his wife, Kyle, live in Hope Mills with their two children.
