LUMBERTON — The Robeson Community College’s board of trustees members were told Monday that tuition rates will stay the same for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
The current tuition rate for students taking 16 or more credit hours is $1,280.50 for in-state students and $4,352.50 for out-of-state students.
The announcement was made without discussion.
Also at the meeting, Kimberly Gold, RCC president, told the trustees that “Start. Achieve. Become.” will be the school’s new slogan.When students return they will see the new slogan. The former slogan was “Study the Possibilities.”
“They start here, they achieve and we believe that they are always becoming,” Gold said.
The new slogan will be featured on items such as shirts and caps, and will be on the sign at the front of the school.
Instructors Crystal Edmonds and LaRonda Lowery spotlighted updates and goals for the Career and College Ready Graduates pilot program during Monday’s trustees meeting. The program is implemented in high schools to introduce students to the college’s Developmental Math, Reading and English curriculum. Edmonds is a teacher for the Developmental Math Pilot, and Lowery for the Developmental English Pilot.
The college teamed with Purnell Swett and South Robeson high schools in the 2017-18 academic year to pilot the program. The goal for the next year is to add two more schools to the program, Edmonds said.
The trustees also:
— Were introduced to Instructor of the Year nominee Mickey Biggs. Biggs is the director of Basic Law Enforcement Training. He began working at RCC as a part-time instructor in 1988.
— Were reminded that they must turn in trustee evaluation forms by June 21.
— Were reminded that the College and Career Readiness Graduation will be held Thursday at 10 a.m.
