LUMBERTON — City police are calling the death of an elderly man who was found dead on Saturday afternoon “suspicious.”
Police Capt. Terry Parker said police responding to a call at about 2 p.m. found the body of Rufus Revels, 85, inside his home at 3155 Bakersfield Drive, Lumberton. He was there alone.
According to a statement from Parker, “evidence at the scene” led police to call the death suspicious and an investigation is underway.
Revels’ body was sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy that will help determine the cause of the death.
Erich Hackney, an investigator with the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office, is assisting with the investigation.
