PEMBROKE — A Red Springs woman is refusing to cooperate with lawmen who are investigating her being shot at a local restaurant, a Pembroke police detective said.

“The victim has refused to speak or cooperate with us,” said Detective Ed Strickland on Thursday. “She is not helping out with the investigation.”

Pembroke police were notified of a shooting at the McDonald’s, located at 801 W. Third St., at about 8:32 p.m. on Wednesday, Strickland said. Officers found 31-year-old Dorena Michelle Enriquez, of the 200 block of Green Hill Road, inside the restaurant with a gunshot wound to the upper left leg.

“The victim told officers at the scene who had shot her. But didn’t provide a motive,” Strickland said.

The Robesonian was provided a name of the alleged shooter, but will not publish as he is not charged with a crime.

Enriquez was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center for treatment of the non-life threatening injury. She refused medical treatment and left the hospital against the hospital’s advice.

Robeson County sheriff’s deputies interviewed the suspect’s mother for a potential motive, he said. She told police the incident was a domestic situation.

“The suspect accused the victim (Enriquez) of taking property and shot the victim in retaliation,” Strickland said.

A red truck driven by the suspect was caught on video in the parking lot of the restaurant.

“The officers were not there when she was shot. I didn’t see when she was shot. In order for him to be charged, the victim has to give us a statement,” he said. “Footage from McDonald’s surveillance shows the older model red Nissan truck enter and exit the parking lot but does not show the shooting taking place.”

The case is still open despite the uncooperative victim, Strickland said.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to call Strickland at 910-521-4333. Callers can remain anonymous.
