NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — Two local golfers sit in red figures after the first round at the Barbasol Championship on Thursday.
Fairmont native William McGirt fired an opening-round 68 and Laurinburg native Frank Adams III is at 2 under after a 70 in the first round. Troy Merritt leads the field at 10 under.
McGirt rebounded from a bogey on the third hole with four birdies on Nos. 6, 8, 13 and 17. He also gained a stroke on the second hole. He currently sit in a tie for 28th.
In his third career start on the PGA Tour, and first since the 2016 U.S. Open, Adams’ round got off to a bad start with a triple bogey on his second hole, No. 11, before birdies on No. 17, 6 and 8, along with an eagle on the second hole. He is in a tie for 59th.
In Friday’s second round, McGirt goes off the 10th tee at 7:44 a.m., and Adams tees off a 8:17 a.m. from the first tee.
