LUMBERTON — Rising Lumberton senior Parks Ledwell’s announcement on Tuesday morning fulfilled two dreams in one.
On his Twitter account, the Pirates’ right-handed pitcher announced his commitment to High Point University to complete his dream of getting to play college baseball at a school that he fell in love with.
“This means a great deal to me,” Ledwell said. “I have always dreamed about playing college baseball and now my hard work is paying off. I knew it was a top school on my list from the time we started communicating.”
High Point is coming off a 34-22 campaign where it came one game short of making the NCAA tournament field, with a loss to Campbell in the Big South Tournament championship game. Last week, the Big South announced that the conference tournament will be played in Fayetteville’s new baseball park from 2019 to 2021.
“I love their programs, athletic and academic,” he said. “The campus is great and from the people I met there, they all seem very friendly. I owe it all to God and I appreciate their coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
Over the past three seasons for the Pirates, Ledwell has posted a 4.97 ERA in 19 appearances on the mound. He also has totaled 86 strikeouts and 45 hits over the last two seasons.
