LUMBERTON — One man is in jail and another in a hospital after a shooting early Wednesday in Rowland.
Sheriff’s deputies responded about 1:51 a.m. to a shooting at 802 E. Main St. in Rowland, according to Maj. Anthony Thompson, and found Billy Roady Bowens, of East Main Street in Rowland, had been shot in the chest with a shotgun. Bowens was taken by helicopter to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence for treatment.
Investigators learned Bowens had accused the man who lives at the East Main Street address of owing him money, according to Thompson. Bowens and Howard Shuler, 47, of Herring Road in Nichols, S.C., went to the address, where Bowens told Shuler to shoot the male resident of the East Main Street residence. The man fired a shotgun in the direction of Bowens and Shuler as they came toward him.
Bowens’ condition was not available. No one has been charged in the shooting, Thompson said, but the investigation continues.
Shuler was arrested on outstanding warrants for assault on female and failure to appear in court, according to Thompson. He he was jailed at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $6,000 secured bond.
