LUMBERTON — Area residents who want to vote in the Nov. 6 general election but are not registered to do so are running out of time — but only if they want to vote the traditional way, on Election Day itself and not through One-Stop or early voting.
If voting on Election Day is your preference and you are not registered to vote, then you have until Monday at 5 p.m. to do so at the Robeson County Elections Office at 800 N. Walnut St. The state extended the deadline to register by three days in Robeson and 27 other counties that were hit hardest by Hurricane Florence.
For those who don’t register in time, there remains the One-Stop option, when people can register and vote the same day. This year that includes both a Saturday and a Sunday day of early voting.
There will be six early voting sites for the election, five satellite and the Elections Office.
The satellite sites’ addresses are Fairmont, Fairmont Fire Hall, 421 S. Main St.; Maxton, Fire Department, 108 Rockingham Road; Pembroke, Pembroke Public Library, 413 Blaine St.; Red Springs, Community Building, 122 Cross St.; and St. Pauls, Town Hall, 210 W. Blue St.
The hours for voting at all the satellite sites are Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 22 through Oct. 26, and Oct. 29 through Nov. 2, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day; Oct. 28, 1 to 4 p.m.; and Nov. 3, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The One-Stop hours at the Board of Elections office are Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 22 through Oct. 26, and Oct. 29 through Nov 2, 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m each day; and Nov. 3, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This is a mid-term election, and the local choices are somewhat limited. There are competitive races for district attorney, District 6 on the Robeson County Board of Elections, District 13 in the state Senate, districts 46 and 47 in the state House, and two competitive seats for District Court judge. There also is a competitive race for District 9 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
