LUMBERTON — Three new lieutenants will be among the Lumberton Fire Department ranks as of Wednesday.

Master Firefighters Clayton Chavis, Johnathan Inman and Rendell Thompson were promoted to lieutenant Friday, Assistant Chief Chris West said Monday. Each new officer will be assigned to Central Station, on Cedar Street in Lumberton, and share command, on rotating shifts, of the department’s 100-foot ladder truck and command a crew of three firefighters.

“That’s kind of our baby,” West said. “It’s the pride of our fleet, you could say.”

Chavis, 40, will move to Central Station from Station 2, on Bailey Road, West said. Chavis has been with the department since April 2008.

Inman, 31, already is assigned to Central Station. He has been with the department since May 2007.

Thompson, 43, also moves from Station 2 to Central Station. He joined the department in September 2000.

The pinning ceremony was Friday, but the actual date their new rank takes effective is Wednesday.
