ST. PAULS — St. Pauls recently had a sewage spill of more than 1,000 gallons, according to town officials.
According to a statement from the town, it occurred on Nov. 13 from about 6 to 8 a.m. at the head of the wastewater plant located at 601 S. Elizabeth St. The gravity line carrying the wastewater exceeded its capacity and flowed into a creek running into Big Marsh swamp. Approximately 400 gallons reached the creek, but the town found no evidence that the spill affected surface water in the Lumber River Basin.
The town is required by state law to make an public announcement of the spill.
