Rowland Christmas parade next in line

ROWLAND — The town of Rowland is next in line as Christmas parades roll in across the county, creating a festive spirit for the holiday season..

The parade will be held Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Rowland Middle School, located at 408 W. Chapel St. This year’s grand marshal is Robeson County Commissioner Roger Oxendine.

Entries will be accepted until parade elements begin lining up at 9 a.m. The town does not allow motorcycles.

After the parade, a Christmas Festival will be held at the Historic Depot on South Railroad Street. The festival will feature food, music, face=painting and Santa Claus, who will be giving out candy to children.

Other towns parades and holiday events scheduled are:

— Fairmont’s 12th annual Holiday on Main will be on Nov. 30. Festivities begin with a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m followed by a Twilight Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m.

— The town of Marietta and the White House Volunteer Fire Department’s 32nd annual Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 1 at 11 a.m.

— The St. Pauls Christmas Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Dec. 1. For more information, contact Jeff Walters at 910-865-4196.

— The Pembroke Twilight Christmas Parade will be held on Dec. 6. The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and will end at Pembroke Elementary School. Lineup is at 3:30 p.m.

— The Christmas in Red Springs event is set for Dec. 8. The Christmas parade begins at 3 p.m. For more information, contact the Red Springs Arts Council at theredspringsartscouncil2014@yahoo.com or call Maggy Morley at 910-988-1315.

— Maxton’s Christmas parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Dec. 8. Lineup will start at the Townsend Middle School.

The Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas Parade, as is tradition, was first in line, having been held last weekend.
