FAYETTEVILLE — Homestanding Terry Sanford earned two wins over Lumberton on Thursday night, with a 46-32 win in the girls game, and a 49-47 win in boys action.
The losses are the first of the season for both teams.
In the opener, Lumberton’s girls (3-1) suffered a poor-shooting second quarter where the Terry Sanford 11-10 lead grew to 21-13. The Lady Bulldogs scored 20 points in the third quarter to pull away.
Lumberton was led in scoring by Madison Canady and Rachel O’Neil with nine points. Terry Sanford’s Lindsey Bell and Kate Perko each scored 14 points.
In the boys game, Lumberton (3-1) was held to 12 points in the fourth quarter, after trailing 38-35 heading into the period. Lumberton’s Braylan Grice, who was a main source of offense in the second half, fouled out in the final period. He finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
With Grice out, Jordan McNeill scored eight of his team-leading 14 points in the fourth quarter, to go along with nine boards, five steals and two blocks.
Terry Sanford’s Jay Hickman had a game-high 15 points, while a trio of Bulldogs each contributed eight points.
The Pirates open Sandhills Athletic Conference play when it travels to Hoke on Tuesday.
