LUMBERTON — An arrest was made Tuesday in connection to an Alabama man whose body was found in a local canal.
Brian Keith Locklear, 47, of Silo Drive in Rowland, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and concealment and/or failure to report a death, according to a statement from sheriff’s Maj. Damien McLean.
The charges are related to the death of Jon Eric Morris, 53, of Jacksonville, Ala. Morris’ body was found Dec. 3 in a canal on Kenric Road in Lumberton.
“The cause of death is pending the completion of the N.C. Medical Examiner’s autopsy,” the statement reads in part. “The final autopsy report will determine if any additional charges will be filed.”
The Eastern District of North Carolina Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Deep Branch Fire Department, Chatsworth Police Department in Murray County, Ga., and Jacksonville (Ala.) Police Department, assisted with the investigation.
