LUMBERTON — A familiar name, but with a different face, will become the newest addition to the Robeson County Board of Commissioners on Monday.
During the meeting that will take place at 6 p.m. in the county Administration Building at 701 N. Elm St. in Lumberton, Pauline Campbell will be sworn in as the District 2 representative. She will be the third female commissioner ever to serve on the board and the first African-American female.
The Robesonian will live stream the meeting on Facebook.
Campbell will take the seat formerly held by her husband, Berlester Campbell. The late commissioner was unopposed in the Nov. 6 election, but died on Sept. 28. His widow was selected by the county Democratic Party to receive the votes he won and to take his place on the board.
She doesn’t have to wait to be certified by reconstituted county and state boards of election to take the seat, according to County Manager Kellie Blue.
After Campbell is sworn in there will be a short recess for a reception.
Monday’s agenda contains six pubic hearings.
The first is a conditional-use permit request from David Nance, of Orrum, who wants to establish a used-car dealership on a 1.38 acre tract in a Residential Agricultural District.
Holly Swamp Solar LLC will ask for a conditional-use permit to allow for the establishment of a solar farm on 20 acres of a 102.50-acre tract in Raft Swamp. The land is in a Residential Agricultural District.
Teresa Locklear, of Smiths Township, is scheduled to request a conditional-use permit to allow the establishment of a family cemetery on a 3.55-acre tract in a Residential Agricultural District.
Guess International NC Inc., of Orrum, is seeking a conditional-use permit to allow for the establishment of a bio-gas facility on a 48-acre tract in a Residential Agricultural District.
Shawn Roy, of Britts Township, is scheduled to ask for a conditional-use permit to allow for the establishment of a sign and car vinyl business on a 5.36-acre tract in a Residential Agricultural District
Robin Oxendine, of Philadelphus, is scheduled to request a conditional-use permit to allow for the establishment of a family cemetery on a 1-acre tract in a Residential Agricultural District.
Presentations are scheduled to be given by Kathy Cummings, CEO of KV Consultants and Associates Inc.; Rogena Deese, Robeson County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council; and Jonathan F. Glover, CEO of FinFa Inc.
The commissioners also are to take up appointments to the Workforce Development Board.
Commissioner Roger Oxendine, chairman of the board’s Personnel Committee, will give a committee report to the board members.
