LUMBERTON — A “Christmas in July” cleaning supply drive to benefit the Robeson County Humane Society is scheduled for Friday, and supporters of the nonprofit say there is a great need now.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lowes Food, located at 5075 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton. A Christmas tree will be at the store and people are asked to consider buying supplies the no-kill shelter that the society manages needs and placing under them under the tree.

Owen Thomas, the president of the society, said summer stresses the shelter on West Fifth Street. The shelter’s wish list includes cat litter, trash bags, dish soap, laundry detergent, bleach and paper towels.

“The summer is always the time shelters are over flowing with homeless pets looking for their forever homes, so please consider supporting, whether it’s supplies, donations or adopting,” Thomas said.

The drive has become a “main provider” for the cleaning supplies the shelter needs, said Jason Britt, supply drive organizer. Supplies collected at the last drive lasted about five months.
