PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett baseball team avenged its loss to Pinecrest earlier in the week to beat the Patriots 3-0 at home on Friday night.
The win puts the Rams in a tie for first in the Southeastern Conference with Pinecrest.
At the plate, Ethan Chavis went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Purnell Swett. Mckinley Strickland had the other RBI for the Rams that put runs up in the first, third and sixth innings.
Ryan Graham threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings on the mound and fanned five batters.
Lumberton splits with Raiders
LUMBERTON — The Lumberton baseball team swept Richmond Senior, while the Lady Rader softball team swept Lumberton in softball action in Lumberton.
In a pitchers’ duel in the baseball game, the Pirates scored the only run in the game with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 1-0.
Parks Ledwell threw a three-hitter on the mound for the Pirates. Tyler Jacobs had a double and scored the only run.
The Richmond Senior softball team had big innings in the fifth and seventh to take a 6-1 win over the Lady Pirates.
Morgan Britt struck out 11 batters for Lumberton. LeAnn Nobles plated the only Lumberton run in going 1-for-3 batting. Richmond’s Owen Bowers had one hit, a home run in the seventh inning that scored two.
Purnell Swett ties program mark in win over Scots
PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett girls soccer team won its ninth game of the year with a 6-0 win over Scotland.
Abi Lowry recorded a hat trick, Christina Revels added two other goals and Layla Locklear netted the other goal for the Lady Rams.
