LUMBERTON — A 29-year-old Lumberton woman was killed Monday when she lost control of her vehicle and it was struck almost head-on by an approaching Freightliner box truck, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Trooper Kyle Covington said the accident that killed Jessica Nicole Boone, of 2383 W. Carthage Road, happened about 3:04 p.m. on N.C. 41, east of Lumberton, about a half mile from Bladen County.
According to Covington, Boone was driving a two-door Kia passenger vehicle east when her vehicle drifted off the road to the right, she over-corrected and the vehicle went off the road to the left, and then as she tried to get it back on the highway it was struck by the vehicle being driven by Jamie Lyn Snipes, 34, of Ascot Lane, Lumberton.
Boone, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Snipes, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
Boone and Snipes each were traveling alone. Snipes was not charged.
The Kia was destroyed, and damage to the box truck was estimated at about $6,000.
