RED SPRINGS — A local man wanted on outstanding warrants has been placed in the county jail under a $75,000 bond for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint more than a year ago, court records show.
La-amel Clarence McDougald, 28, of 4642 Mt. Zion Church Road, has been charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, and conspiracy felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Red Springs police officers arrested McDougald on Friday, the same day he made his first court appearance, according to court records.
McDougald is accused of “feloniously stealing, taking and carrying away $400 in cash, a cell phone and wallet containing an ID, a debit card, of the value of $600, from Gavry McLean” on April 1, 2017, according to court documents. McDougald “committed this act by means of an assault consisting of having in possession and threatening the use of a black handgun whereby the life of McLean was threatened and endangered,” according to court documents.
McDougald feloniously conspired with Corionta Dominique Cooper “to commit the felony of robbery with a dangerous weapon against McLean,” court records show.
McDougald already was a felon because he pleaded guilty and served a prison sentence for the charge of felony robbery with a dangerous weapon that stemmed from a crime committed on Nov. 2, 2007, court records show. He pleaded guilty on May 11, 2009, in Robeson County Superior Court 16B and was sentenced to 301 days in jail.
McDougald is scheduled back in court on Oct. 19.
