LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Police Department and the FBI now are asking for information about a man seen in video recordings walking along streets in the area near where a 13-year-old girl was kidnapped Monday.
The videos collected by investigators show what appears to be a man wearing light-colored shoes, a light-colored shirt, and a hoodie walking down Lambeth Street and then turning left on Elizabethtown Road and waking toward Rosewood Mobile Home Park, where Hania Noelia Aguilar was kidnapped as she waited for her ride to Lumberton Junior High School. The FBI has released the video and it can be viewed at www.fbi.gov. Anyone with information that can lead to the identification of the man in the video is asked to call the dedicated tip line at 910-272-5871.
“If you saw the individual on the morning of Nov. 5 or know this man, please contact our tip line at 910-272-5871 with any information,” a FBI news release reads in part. “If you are this individual, please call the tip line to speak with investigators; your assistance may help in locating Hania.”
The man in the video is not being called a suspect, nor a person of interest, said C. Andrew de la Rocha, a FBI supervisory senior resident agent. He is seen in the video near the place and the time Aguilar was kidnapped.
“He’s just someone we want to speak with,” de la Rocha said.
The man may know something or may have seen something that can lead to Aguilar’s return, the agent said.
The SUV, found about 8 a.m. Thursday, also brings investigators one step closer to finding Aguilar, de la Rocha said. The SUV used in Aguilar’s kidnapping was found off Quincey Drive in Lumberton.
“Someone called 911 and said they saw the vehicle backed up in the woods,” Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill said.
Investigators secured the scene and and the FBI’s Evidence Response Team was called in to process the vehicle for evidence, de la Rocha said.
Anyone who lives in the area where the SUV was found or owns a business on or near Quincey Drive and has a video surveillance camera system is asked to call the tip line so a copy of the footage can be obtained.
