PEMBROKE — The town of Pembroke will honor veterans with the 2018 Veterans Day Parade on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

The parade, which is hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2853, will start at the Pembroke Elementary School and end at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke across from Burger King.

This year’s parade line up will include marching units, bands, queens and kings, floats and veterans. After the parade a special ceremony will be held at the Milton R. Hunt Memorial Park.

The VFW will hold a fish and chicken plate sale at the headquarters at 1509 Union Chapel Road. Plates will be $8.

Floats are $350 to enter. For further information, contact Temeara Huggins or Mayor Greg Cummings at Pembroke Town Hall. The number is 910-521-9758.

In other Veterans Day events, the Maxton American Legion Post 117 will conduct its Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday. The Color Guard will be provided by Purnell Swett Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

The ceremony will take place at the Maxton Public Library Auditorium at the corner of North Florence and West Graham Streets in Maxton. The event is open to the public.
