LUMBERTON — Action on improving drainage in and around the city is on the agenda for Monday’s Lumberton City Council meeting.
The council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in City Hall, located at 500 N. Cedar St.
On Wednesday, City Council members, meeting as the Council Policy Committee, gave unanimous approval to send a letter of intent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture as part of an effort to obtain a federal grant to improve water flow in the Meadow Branch Watershed. The letter is to be sent to the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. It is believed that improving water flow in the watershed will reduce the risk of catastrophic flooding.
Also on Monday, council members will be asked to give final approval to sending to the state Department of Transportation a resolution in support of a project to widen Fayetteville Road from Farringdom Street to East 22nd Street. The resolution is required by the state before the project can proceed.
Council members also are to consider for approval a resolution approving an agreement with county government for the city to administer Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funds for construction of floodgates at the CSX / VFW Road / Interstate 95 crossing and to extend sewer service farther west on N.C. 211.
One public hearing is scheduled for Monday’s meeting. It concerns a request from French Family Properties for a conditional-use permit for property located off Dawn Drive.
Under the New Business section of Monday’s agenda are:
— Approval of a change order to the Lumberton Riverwalk construction contract.
— A Public Works Department request to select the Wooten Company as the design firm for the Nevada Street and Godwin Heights 2018 Priority Repair Sewer Rehabilitation Project.
— A contract amendment with the Wooten Company for $9,966 to design the permanent dewatering pumping stations associated with the water plant berm hazard mitigation project funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
