County to decide on 911 purchase

LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will be asked to approve the purchase of a new E-911 Communications radio system when it meets on Monday.

Chad Deese, assistant director of Communications, will make the request when the board meets at 6 p.m. at the county Administration Building, located at 701 N. Elm St. in Lumberton. The Robesonian will provide a live stream of the meeting on Facebook.

There will be a lot of discussion about the county’s current 911 emergency system and where it needs to be in the future, said Jason King, assistant county manager.

The commissioners also will hear a request from Parks & Recreation Director Wendy Chavis to buy a John Deere 1200A field rake.

Monday’s agenda also includes a public hearing during which SEATS Director Sharon Robinson will speak about the proposed Robeson County Community Transportation Program application.

The consent agenda contains budget amendments for the Robeson County Department of Social Services; Community Development Funds, which is a lump sum of $30,000 a year that goes to each commissioner to be used at their discretion; and the schedule of 2019 Board of Commissioners meetings.

Consent agendas typically are approved without comment or debate.

Commissioner Lance Herndon will present a Public Works Committee report. That committee is to meet at 5:15 p.m. Monday.
