LUMBERTON — The North Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled an open house for Feb. 11 to provide information to area residents and get feedback about a proposed street-widening project in Pembroke.
The event will take place 5 to 7 p.m. at Pembroke Town Hall, located at 100 Union Chapel Road. Transporation Department officials will be present to talk about the proposed widening of a mile-long segment of West Third Street from two lanes to four, with a raised median.
The proposed project also would include safety enhancement and accommodations for bicycles and pedestrians. Preliminary designs of what the change would look like and design map will be on display.
The section where the proposed changes are to take place are part of 12-mile stretch of N.C. 711, which also is the focus of a new study by DOT, the Governor’s Highway Commission and the National Governors Association. The section of road is being studied in an attempt to find ways to reduce crashes and highway fatalities along N.C. 711.
Comments or additional questions regarding the 0pen house should be submitted by Feb. 26 to Jason Hatfield, Division 6 project engineer, at jrhatfield@ncdot.gov or 910-364-0603.
