Public libraries are exciting family destinations. This September marks the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign-Up Month and libraries across the country are hosting events to showcase library programs and services. Along with the support of expert staff, families will explore free library activities such as Storytime, STEM club, LEGO club; adults have opportunities to engage in lifelong learning through technology classes, genealogy research assistance and a monthly book club. Join in on the fun today and register for a library card and take advantage of the vast free resources Robeson County Public Library has to offer.

In addition to lending books, audio books, playaways, DVDs, and online research tools, thousands of downloadable eBooks, eAudiobooks, and videos are available through Overdrive at https://e-inc.overdrive.com, or download the app Libby by Overdrive. Other materials available for in-library use are magazines and newspapers, computers, Internet, Wi-Fi, outgoing fax and printing services, genealogy resources, as well as, educational computers and apps for children.

A Robeson County Public Library card is available free of charge for anyone who is a resident of Robeson County, owner of property in Robeson County, and/or student or teacher in a Robeson County school, college, or university. Library privileges are also available to residents of surrounding counties including Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland, Bladen, Columbus, and Dillon, S.C. Individuals who live in one of the mentioned counties may apply for a non-resident library card by filling out a library card application at any library location and supplying identification and proof of current address. These free non-resident library cards are valid for two years and limit the maximum number of items that may be checked out to four items.

Applications must be completed in person and proof of identity and current address are required. To receive a library card, an applicant must provide picture identification, such as a valid state issued driver’s license or ID, military ID, school or work ID card, passport, or any other official picture ID. If the applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license or other photo ID, the photo ID must be accompanied by one of the following proof of residency: post marked piece of mail, lease, deed, utility agreement, voter or car registration, insurance card, or pay stub, all with the applicant’s name and address. There is no minimum age requirement to apply for a library card. Children under the age of 18 must be present with a parent or legal guardian with current ID to sign their library card application. After a library card is issued, borrowing privileges are granted on the spot. Phone and online registration options are not available at this time. When’s the last time you checked out your local library or library website at www.robesoncountylibrary.org? Get your Robeson County Public Library card this month — or anytime during the year.

All kids ages 8 through 12 are welcome to Sci-Fri STEM time on Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. Each month we will discover something about science, technology, engineering or math. This club meets on the second Friday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m.

All Robeson County Public Libraries will be closed in honor of Labor Day on Monday.
